H «άγνωστη» Μάχη της Μερίτσας στις 12 Φεβρουαρίου 1943

Μία ιδιαίτερη στιγμή στα μαύρα χρόνια της κατοχής ήταν η Μάχη της Μερίτσας, με πρωταγωνιστές απλούς ανθρώπους και με την αυθόρμητη καθοδήγηση τοπικών ηγετικών προσωπικοτήτων. Ακόμα και σήμερα δεν έχει αναδειχθεί στο βαθμό που αναλογεί στη σημασία της.

Όπως ανέφερε ο Ομότιμος Καθηγητής του Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών Αριστοτέλης Ράπτης και γιός του μαχητή Δημήτρη Ράπτη σε ομιλία του σε σχετική εκδήλωση τιμής και μνήμης: «Είναι μία περίπτωση ιστορικού γεγονότος με ιδιαίτερο ενδιαφέρον, αφού αποτελεί παράδειγμα γνήσιας λαϊκής αντίστασης με πολιτικά συλλογικό και ενωτικό χαρακτήρα, μια μάχη που, αν και υπήρξε νικηφόρα χάρις στην ομοψυχία, τον έξυπνο σχεδιασμό και τον καλό συντονισμό των συντελεστών της, ατύχησε εντούτοις στο επίπεδο της επίσημης αναγνώρισης και προβολής της, λόγω της αμηχανίας που προκάλεσε στους μετέπειτα πολιτικούς, καθώς δεν ήταν ξεκάθαρα τα παραταξιακά της χαρακτηριστικά.

Άλλοι την υποτίμησαν φοβούμενοι την αναγνώριση της φιλοπατρίας των αριστερών, άλλοι απέκρυπταν λεπτομέρειες, καθώς δεν είχε πραγματοποιηθεί με τις άνωθεν εντολές του Κόμματος, προκειμένου να την οικειοποιηθούν, ενώ τους «μπέρδευε» και το γεγονός ότι υπήρξε συνεργασία με πρόσωπα αντίθετων πολιτικών παρατάξεων.

Πολύ δύσκολο ήταν λοιπόν, για τις επικρατούσες μετεμφυλιακές νοοτροπίες στη χώρα μας, να γίνει επισήμως λόγος και να εορταστεί η επέτειος μιας επιτυχούς μάχης, από τις πρώτες της Εθνικής Αντίστασης, μια και υπήρχε η αμηχανία της ταμπέλας. Γι’ αυτό και η μνήμη της θάφτηκε πριν καλά-καλά η ιστορία της να έχει γραφτεί».

Tην περίοδο εκείνη οι δυνάμεις κατοχής προσπαθούσαν να καλύψουν τις επισιτιστικές τους ανάγκες με αρπαγές ζωικού κεφαλαίου και γεωργικών προϊόντων, αδιαφορώντας για τις επιπτώσεις που επέφεραν στον πληθυσμό, που ήδη ήταν υποσιτισμένος. Το ιταλικό φιρμάνι ζητούσε να παραδοθούν στο ιταλικό στρατόπεδο της Καλαμπάκας, τρόφιμα, φρούτα, αιγοπρόβατα σφαγμένα και κρασί.

Στα ιταλικά τελεσίγραφα, ένα νέο «Μολών Λαβέ» ήρθε από απλούς χωρικούς, με αποτέλεσμα οι κατακτητές να οργανώσουν επιδρομή για να αρπάξουν ό,τι μπορούσαν.

Με ιδιαίτερη ευστροφία η ελληνική πλευρά έστησε ενέδρα, ενώ έστειλε στους Ιταλούς δήθεν «προδότες» που θα τους οδηγούσαν σε αποθήκες – δόλωμα του χωριού Μερίτσα (σημερινή Οξύνεια) που θα είχαν προϊόντα και αρκετό κρασί, ώστε σε κατάσταση μέθης των Ιταλών να υπάρξει ακόμα πιο καίριο χτύπημα. Η αγωνία των «προδοτών» που οδηγούσαν τους Ιταλούς μήπως χτυπηθούν από φίλια πυρά, έκανε τους Ιταλούς να καταλάβουν την παγίδευσή τους, αλλά ήταν αργά γι αυτούς.

Το ιταλικό τάγμα ξεκίνησε από την Καλαμπάκα ένα βαριά οπλισμένο τάγμα προς το χωριό Οξύνεια και συμμετείχαν πάνω από 360 Ιταλοί στρατιώτες, ενώ από την ελληνική πλευρά οι μαχητές θα πρέπει να κυμαίνονταν από 140 έως 180, ίσως και λιγότεροι. Οι Έλληνες υστερούσαν σε οπλισμό και πυρομαχικά. Την ελληνική δύναμη αποτελούσαν χωρικοί που πήγαν αυθόρμητα να βοηθήσουν όσους ήδη συμμετείχαν στις αντιστασιακές οργανώσεις.

Όπως αναφέρει ο Α. Ράπτης: «Εμπνευστής και πρωτεργάτης αυτής της μάχης ήταν ο Ηλίας Καφαντάρης (καπετάν Αδαμάντιος) του ΕΑΜ, που όπως χαρακτηριστικά λέει ο Στέργιος ο Γιαννούλας στη συνέντευξή του για την προσωπικότητα του, «όσο μπόι του έλλειπε τόσο μυαλό είχε». Η απόφαση του Αδαμάντιου για τη μάχη πάρθηκε χωρίς να έχει την έγκριση του ΕΑΜ Χασίων. Μετά τη μάχη χάθηκαν τα ίχνη του και επανεμφανίστηκε το 1948 (ακολούθως υπέστη διώξεις και εξορίες) χωρίς ποτέ να πει που ήταν όλα αυτά τα χρόνια.

Βασικοί συνεργάτες του στο συγκεκριμένο εγχείρημα ήταν ο Νίκος Ζαραλής (καπετάν Χασιώτης του ΕΑΜ) από το Αγιόφυλλο και ο Αριστείδης Μπλούτσος, Ανθυπολοχαγός του διαλυμένου εθνικού στρατού και αρχηγός της οργάνωσης ΜΙΔΑ, φίλα προσκείμενης στο ΕΔΕΣ.

Πρόσωπα δηλαδή με μεγάλες διαφορές στην ιδεολογία και τη δράση τους».

«Αναμφίβολα ουσιαστικό ρόλο στη μάχη αυτή έπαιξαν δυο ιερείς ο ιεροδιδάσκαλος Μπατζογιάννης του χωριού Μερίτσας (Οξύνειας) μέλος του ΕΑΜ και ο Παπαθανάσης ιερέας του Αγιοφύλλου ονόματι Πούλιος Αθανάσιος», αναφέρει η ίδια πηγή. Στο Αγιόφυλλο η ενημέρωση για την επικείμενη ιταλική επιδρομή έγινε κατά τη διάρκεια της λειτουργίας. Ο Αδαμάντιος κάθε Κυριακή πήγαινε στη λειτουργία και έβγαζε λόγο και ενημέρωνε τους πολίτες της περιοχής για τις εξελίξεις. Μάλιστα τους έβαλε το δίλημμα ή θα είστε μαζί μας ή με τους κατακτητές. Μπορεί όποιος θέλει να πάει με τους εχθρούς μας αλλά όμως θα σας συμπεριφερόμαστε σαν εχθρούς.

Στη μάχη ο απολογισμός για τους Ιταλούς ήταν 164 νεκροί, 184 αιχμάλωτοι και περίπου 10 διέφυγαν καθοδηγούμενοι από ένα αγροφύλακα της περιοχής. Σημειωτέον ότι στο πλευρό των Ιταλών πολέμησαν και 7 αγροφύλακες και οι οποίοι συνελήφθησαν, ενώ η ελληνική πλευρά είχε επτά νεκρούς.

Αφηνιασμένοι οι Ιταλοί μετά την ήττα, προχώρησαν σε αντίποινα εκτελώντας αθώους πολίτες, ενώ η μανία τους ήταν τέτοια που εκτέλεσαν μοναχό της Ιεράς Μονής Σταγιάδων εκτιμώντας πως ήταν μέλος αντιστασιακής οργάνωσης επειδή είχε γενειάδα.

Τα αποτελέσματα της μάχης ήταν η ενίσχυση των ανταρτικών δυνάμεων με εξοπλισμό, φάρμακα και ρούχα, από τα λάφυρα, η αναπτέρωση του ηθικού σε όλη την περιοχή και η πτώση του ηθικού των Ιταλών που δεν περίμεναν τέτοια εξέλιξη.

Μεγαλείο ψυχής

Ιδιαίτερο μεγαλείο ψυχής επέδειξαν οι κάτοικοι της περιοχής προς τους αιχμαλώτους Ιταλούς, αφού παρά τα πλιάτσικα που είχαν υποστεί, τις πυρπολήσεις και τους βιασμούς γυναικών, δεν τους κακοποίησαν, αντίθετα φρόντισαν τους τραυματίες, τάισαν τους αιχμαλώτους και τους άφησαν να επιστρέψουν στο στρατόπεδό τους.

Τα χαρακτηριστικά της μάχης

Ήταν μία μάχη που είχε έντονο το χαρακτηριστικό της λαϊκής συμμετοχής, που πήγαζε από την αγανάκτηση και την απελπισία που δημιουργούσαν οι συνεχείς αρπαγές.

Σύμφωνα με αρκετές εκτιμήσεις, όπως αναφέρει ο κ. Ράπτης: «Πρόκειται ουσιαστικά για την πρώτη μάχη εθνικής αντίστασης στην Ελλάδα, μετά τον πόλεμο στην Αλβανία. Ο Γοργοπόταμος, που είχε προηγηθεί, δεν ήταν μια τακτική μάχη, αλλά δολιοφθορά του αντίπαλου. Επίσης η μετέπειτα χρονολογικά μάχη της Πύλης είχε τα χαρακτηριστικά ανταρτοπόλεμου και όχι μετωπική με τον αντίπαλο, όπως αυτή της Μερίτσας».

Το ert.gr ρώτησε τον κ. Ράπτη για τον αντίκτυπο της Μάχης της Μαρίτσας στις σημερινές γενιές, αν αποτελεί ακόμα γνωστό γεγονός και σημείο αναφοράς για την περιοχή και μα απάντησε ότι παραμένει ψηλά στη συνείδηση και στις αναφορές των κατοίκων, παρά τα χρόνια που έχουν περάσει.

Μεταξύ των προτάσεων που διατύπωσε σε ομιλίες του και σε άρθρα ο κ. Ράπτης είναι ότι θα μπορούσε να δημιουργηθεί «ένα μουσείο αφιερωμένο στη μάχη αυτή, το οποίο θα αποτελούσε, τόσο για τους μαθητές, όσο και για τους πολίτες, ένα ζωντανό εκπαιδευτικό βοήθημα Το Μουσείο αυτό θα είναι ένας εκθεσιακός χώρος, όπου θα εκτίθενται ντοκουμέντα και υλικό σχετικά με τη μάχη, θα μπορούσε συμβολικά να στεγαστεί στον αναπαλαιωμένο σταθμό τρένου, στο λεγόμενο «18», μιας και αυτό ήταν το σημείο συνάντησης και συνομιλίας των πρωτεργατών της Μάχης».

Ευτυχώς δε ουδείς εκ των Ιταλών ομήρων έπαθεν ουδέν. Τους αιχμαλώτους υγιείς ή τραυματίας κατευθύναμεν προς το χωρίον και τους συνεκεντριωσαμεν εντός τον σχολείου, όπου τους παρεσχέθη θερμόν ρόφημα, φαγητόν και περίθαλψις υγειονομική εις τους τραυματίας χρησιμοποιηθέντων προς τούτο του Ιατρού και των νοσοκόμων τον τάγματος.

Βασίλης Παπαδήμας

Ο παπάς του χωριού Πούλιος Αθανάσιος βγάζει το πετραχήλι, φιλά ευλαβικά το Ευαγγέλιο, αφήνει το δισκοπότηρο, αρπάζει το ντουφέκι, κάνει την προσευχή του και τρέχει ρασοφορεμένος να προλάβει.Για τούτο οι αιχμάλωτοι Ιταλοί λέγανε: «πολλοί παπάδες παρτιζάνοι αφού υπήρχαν και πολλοί γενειοφόροι».

Στις 11 το πρωί ο Αδαμάντιος που γνώριζε ιταλικά μίλησε στους αιχμάλωτους μαζί με το Μαχιά και τους ανακοινώθηκε πως οι Έλληνες ξέρουν και να τιμωρούν και επειδή γνωρίζουν ότι η μεγαλύτερη τιμωρία είναι να συγχωράς τους αντιπάλους, αυτό κάναμε και εμείς οι αντάρτες ελευθερωτές της πατρίδας μας.Την ίδια μέρα άνδρες των δεκαρχιών συνόδευσαν τους αιχμαλώτους μέχρι το Μουργκάνι για να επιστρέψουν στην Καλαμπάκα.

Στέργιος Γιαννούλας

Επί 39 χρόνια αν έλεγες ότι συμμετείχες σε αυτή τη μάχη εθεωρείσο ότι ήσουν EAMOΒούλγαρος, ανθέλληνας και εναντίον του έθνους.

Μιχάλης Κοσβύρας

Πήγαμε και εμείς από το χωριό μας, περίπου δεκαπέντε νέοι, με ό,τι όπλο μπορούσε ο καθένας να εξοικονομήσει και με μόνο πεντ'-έξι σφαίρες, γιατί τα όπλα δεν ήταν όλα του ιδίου τύπου μαλιχέρ, μαουζέρ κ.ά.
