Η συγκέντρωση των πηγών αυτών, είναι μία αρχή της όλης προσπάθειας, στην οποία μπορούν να συμβάλουν και όλοι όσοι έχουν στη διάθεσή τους στοιχεία σχετικά με τη μάχη της Μερίτσας (ή Οξυνείας, για ορισμένους) αποστέλλοντας το υλικό της στην ιστοσελίδα http://www.maximeritsas.com/ .

Σύμφωνα με τις προαναφερθείσες πηγές, η μάχη της Μερίτσας, που έγινε στις 11 με 12 Φεβρουαρίου του 1943, υπήρξε η πρώτη μάχη εθνικής αντίστασης στην περιοχή της Θεσσαλίας, ίσως και στον ελλαδικό χώρο, ενάντια στους κατακτητές. Πρόκειται για μία μορφή αυθόρμητης αντίστασης, με ενωτικό χαρακτήρα, η οποία όμως είναι σχεδόν άγνωστη στον πολύ κόσμο. Και είναι απορίας άξιον γιατί στη βιβλιογραφία αναφέρεται ως πρώτη μάχη εθνικής αντίστασης μια μεταγενέστερη, γνωστή ως Μάχη της Πόρτας, που έγινε σε περιοχή της σημερινής Πύλης του νομού Τρικάλων στις 8-9 Ιουνίου του 1943. Όλες οι προσπάθειές μου, από τις αρχές της δεκαετίας του 1980, για να γίνει ευρύτερα γνωστή αυτή η μάχη στο Πανελλήνιο δεν ευδοκίμησαν. Όμως σήμερα, με τη εξέλιξη των τεχνολογιών και ειδικότερα του Διαδικτύου παρέχονται νέες ευκαιρίες και προκλήσεις για συμμετοχή στο γράψιμο της πρόσφατης τοπικής ιστορίας και για την κατάκτηση της ελεύθερης έκφρασης, που δεν υπόκειται σε κανένα κεντρικό έλεγχο ή λογοκρισία, παρά μόνον εάν υπάρξουν εμπρόθετες αξιόποινες πράξεις».

Μια σύγχρονη προσέγγιση διδασκαλίας και διά βίου μάθησης της Ιστορίας, η οποία εφαρμόζεται σε πολλές ανεπτυγμένες χώρες, είναι η διερεύνηση της τοπικής ιστορίας, που κατασκευάζεται από τους ίδιους τους μαθητευόμενους, συνήθως με ομαδοσυνεργατικό τρόπο, μέσω της συστηματικής πληροφόρησης και μελέτης ιστορικών πηγών, αλλά και με τη δική τους ενεργό δράση, που υποστηρίζεται επιστημονικά από τους εκπαιδευτικούς ή και άλλους επιστημονικά έμπειρους φορείς. Στο πλαίσιο της ενεργού αυτής μάθησης, που έχει ιδιαίτερο ενδιαφέρον για τους πολίτες, σημασία δεν έχει η απλή καταγραφή και το αναμάσημα των πληροφοριών, αλλά η ανάλυση των γεγονότων, η συζήτηση και ο αναστοχασμός πάνω σε αυτά. Οι νέες τεχνολογίες και οι υπηρεσίες του Ίντερνετ, διευκολύνουν τα μέγιστα τη διαδικασία αυτή με τον πλούτο των πηγών, των εργαλείων επεξεργασίας των πληροφοριών και των επικοινωνιακών διασυνδέσεων που μας παρέχουν μέσα και έξω από το εκπαιδευτικό σύστημα. Η ιστορική γνώση και συνείδηση του σύγχρονου πολίτη είναι έτσι δυνατόν να αναπτυχθεί με ένα περισσότερο κριτικό τρόπο από ό,τι στο παρελθόν, τότε που αυτή δινόταν έτοιμη και παραποιημένη από τα σχολικά εγχειρίδια. Δεν πρέπει ακόμη να υποτιμάται και το γεγονός ότι στην πολυφωνική συγγραφή της ιστορίας της πρόσφατης εποχής μπορούν να συμμετάσχουν και οι ίδιοι οι πολίτες και οι μαθητές, συγκεντρώνοντας υλικό με μαρτυρίες και κείμενα όσο ακόμη βρίσκονται εν ζωή όσοι συμμετείχαν και έζησαν τα γεγονότα από κοντά. Όσο περισσότερο εκτιθέμεθα σε πολυφωνικές μαρτυρίες και τις επεξεργαζόμαστε κριτικά, τόσο περισσότερο εκπαιδευόμαστε στην ικανότητα να είμαστε ανοιχτοί στην ιδέα της σχετικότητας και της πολυσημίας της ιστορικής «πραγματικότητας» και της πολιτικής συμφιλίωσης.

Ευτυχώς δε ουδείς εκ των Ιταλών ομήρων έπαθεν ουδέν. Τους αιχμαλώτους υγιείς ή τραυματίας κατευθύναμεν προς το χωρίον και τους συνεκεντριωσαμεν εντός τον σχολείου, όπου τους παρεσχέθη θερμόν ρόφημα, φαγητόν και περίθαλψις υγειονομική εις τους τραυματίας χρησιμοποιηθέντων προς τούτο του Ιατρού και των νοσοκόμων τον τάγματος.

Ο παπάς του χωριού Πούλιος Αθανάσιος βγάζει το πετραχήλι, φιλά ευλαβικά το Ευαγγέλιο, αφήνει το δισκοπότηρο, αρπάζει το ντουφέκι, κάνει την προσευχή του και τρέχει ρασοφορεμένος να προλάβει.Για τούτο οι αιχμάλωτοι Ιταλοί λέγανε: «πολλοί παπάδες παρτιζάνοι αφού υπήρχαν και πολλοί γενειοφόροι».

Στις 11 το πρωί ο Αδαμάντιος που γνώριζε ιταλικά μίλησε στους αιχμάλωτους μαζί με το Μαχιά και τους ανακοινώθηκε πως οι Έλληνες ξέρουν και να τιμωρούν και επειδή γνωρίζουν ότι η μεγαλύτερη τιμωρία είναι να συγχωράς τους αντιπάλους, αυτό κάναμε και εμείς οι αντάρτες ελευθερωτές της πατρίδας μας.Την ίδια μέρα άνδρες των δεκαρχιών συνόδευσαν τους αιχμαλώτους μέχρι το Μουργκάνι για να επιστρέψουν στην Καλαμπάκα.

Επί 39 χρόνια αν έλεγες ότι συμμετείχες σε αυτή τη μάχη εθεωρείσο ότι ήσουν EAMOΒούλγαρος, ανθέλληνας και εναντίον του έθνους.

Πήγαμε και εμείς από το χωριό μας, περίπου δεκαπέντε νέοι, με ό,τι όπλο μπορούσε ο καθένας να εξοικονομήσει και με μόνο πεντ'-έξι σφαίρες, γιατί τα όπλα δεν ήταν όλα του ιδίου τύπου μαλιχέρ, μαουζέρ κ.ά.
